What are the Community ranks and roles?

The Instructure Community uses a ranking system to track member engagement and participation as well as to assign roles and permissions. Ranks provide an easy way to see how engaged someone is in the Instructure Community or if they're part of a special group of users, such as our Community Coaches, Employees, or Community Team ranks. You can learn how to increase your Community rank.

Community User Ranks

These ranks apply to most Community users and are earned by meeting specific requirements while participating in the Instructure Community.

Community Novice

This rank is for our newest Instructure Community members. This helps the Community team identify and help new members. Novices can only participate in select areas of the Instructure Community and have very limited permissions.

Community Member

This rank is for Community members who participate in certain areas of the Community, but who only visit and engage every once in a while. This is the most common rank in the Instructure Community. Community Members can participate in most areas of the Instructure Community, but may have some limited permissions.

Explorer

This rank is very similar to Community Member, but indicates that Community members have spent more time exploring and participating in the Instructure Community. Explorers have similar permissions to Community Members.

Participant

This rank is for Community members who participate in most areas of the Community and visit and engage more often than Community Members and Explorers. Participants answer questions and participate in discussions outside the question forum. Participants can participate in most areas of the Instructure Community and have some elevated permissions.

Contributor

This rank is for Community members who engage and participate frequently in the Instructure Community. Users with this rank provide great content, answer questions, give and receive likes, and visit often. Contributors can participate in most areas of the Instructure Community and have greater permissions.

Champion

This rank is for Community members who go above and beyond in their Community participation. Users with this rank frequently provide expert-level answers and responses, write blog posts, help Novices, and visit the Community often. Champions can participate and create content in almost all areas of the Instructure Community and have specific elevated permissions.

Specialty Roles

These ranks indicate special user roles for Community members and are assigned manually by the Community team.

Advocate

The Advocate rank denotes Community members who are part of the Instructure Advocate program. Advocates must apply to be a part of the program and complete specific tasks to remain a member. Visit the Advocates Program page to learn more about the program. Users with the Advocate rank provide similar content and have similar permissions as the Champion rank.

Partner

The Partner rank denotes Community members who work for companies that have partnered with Instructure. These members typically participate in the Partners space in the Instructure Community.

Coach

The Coach rank denotes Community members who have been selected as Community Coaches. Coaches work directly with the Instructure Community team to facilitate and moderate Community questions, discussions, and blog posts. Coaches also create expert-level content in Community blogs.

Employee

The Employee rank denotes Instructure Employees. Employees often engage in different areas of the Community, including creating events, writing blog posts, answering questions, and engaging Community members.

Community Team

The Community Team rank denotes Instructure Employees who work on the Community Team. The Community Team manages and moderates all aspects of the Community.
