Is moderation new for everyone, or did I do something wrong?

I just posted a comment on a feature idea and got a message saying that it was awaiting moderation. The comment was approved, but I've never gotten a response like that before. Is moderation a new feature of the Canvas Community, or did I do something wrong to trigger moderation? (laughed too hard at the panda jokes, maybe?)

I'm not sure what triggered your post to go to moderation, but don't feel bad, I've had my last three posts sent to moderation.

Moderation was put into place because of the spamming issue we've had recently. As of right now it's the best way to keep the spam out of the Community. Unfortunately the spam filter is a little sensitive and seems to be catching a lot of non-spam. Hopefully once the spam dies down it will get dialed back to something closer to what it was pre-spam.

PS My reply to your question about being moderated just got moderated!

Maybe they looked at the usage for different parts of the Community, saw that "Notifications" weren't getting clicked on enough, and so they decided to encourage people to see their notifications by making it show up after every post.

Maybe it's because I have some notifications that I haven't accepted yet. I've got some from a couple of months ago where stefaniesanders​ tagged me as experts in several areas but my modesty prevented me from accepting them. Now I'm going to have to go accept them and see if that gets rid of the moderation thing.

Perhaps they're moderating people filling up posts with silly non-substantial things.

But other than this conversation, that doesn't really apply.

I've got to go teach class. Sorry I couldn't come up with a solution. I don't know Jive's API and I can't come up with a Greasemonkey script right now to fix the problem.

None of you have been bad (or if you have, there is no causal relationship with that and your posts and replies going into the moderation queue).  As Kona said, we are working to fine tune this part of our community.  For the time being you can expect to see your content go to moderation but is should be approved and out in the community in short order.

I've started seeing the moderation as well.   Maybe if we make enough comments it will go away.   Granted,  @kona ​ makes as many comments in a day as I do in a week so I wonder how many I have to make.

Actually it has been real hit & miss for me. Some get moderated but most don't. I was hoping you guy had a better handle on this than I do.

I never saw "currently being moderated" or "comment awaiting approval" until a few days ago. Now, one phrase or the other is attached to every comment I make on every thread. I feel as if I've somehow been flagged for incivility. Guess I'm looking for a little reassurance that I've done nothing wrong.

It's not just you -- it's happening to lots of people, from the newbie to the seasoned Canvas Coach. Even people who can release items from moderation are getting their own posts moderated.

What James said is absolutely true! Almost every time I post my posts go to moderation and I'm one of the people who has the ability to approve things in moderation! That means I post and then have to go to moderation to approve my own post!

I can understand the move if there was abuse in the forums, but I have seen none of that myself.   I hope this is simply a bug.

From what I understand this is not on purpose and the Community Managers are working with Jive support to get it figured out and fixed.

There is a spam moderation filter that we have had enabled for the past two years.  It has been helpful in that we are attacked occasionally by spammers. But recently it seems to have kicked into overdrive.  We're working with our vendor to try to understand what is happening.  I apologize for the frustration and inconvenience.

I should also add that if you post to the community during hours when we are not sleeping, if it goes into moderation, as long as it doesn't look like an advert for an online casino, it will be approved out of moderation within about ten minutes or probably less.

It happened to me also; but not to a coworker who posted on the same thread. ..so I deleted my post and reposted it and it wasn't marked for moderation. I am glad to know that I'm not alone or in the Canvas time out corner!

My comments today on another thread have been moderated and all of mine have been since the update.  I know this is just adding to this thread's length and not solving anything
