Canvas deploys contain code changes that are intended to fix bugs, improve performance, and prepare for new features, but they do not affect customer workflows. These deploys take place every two weeks and can be tested in the beta environment before the production deploy date indicated in the title of this document. Intended changes in workflow are noted in the Canvas Release Notes published monthly.
Deploy notes may include notable fixed bugs, bugs included in the Current Canvas Issues page, and additional updates that do not affect user functionality.
The New Rich Content Editor Auto-Save duration has been extended from 1 hour to 1 day. The Auto-Save feature is currently only available in the New Rich Content Editor and enabled by an individual feature option.
When the Assignment Allowed Attempts feature option is enabled and no more submissions attempts are available for an assignment, the disabled Submit button shown to students can be read by screen readers.
Product Tours Feature and Arrow Keys
Enabling the Product Tours feature option does not affect the use of left and right arrow keys.
Explanation: When the Product Tours feature option was enabled for an account, the left and right arrow keys became unresponsive in the text boxes where titles are edited for items in a course. This behavior also affected text areas in the Help Menu. Canvas code has been updated to correct the behavior of arrow keys.
Global Announcements and Recent Activity View
Global Announcements are removed when dismissed from the Recent Activity view in the Dashboard.
Explanation: When the Recent Activity view was selected in the Dashboard, dismissing a global announcement appeared to succeed, but the announcement returned to the page after the page was refreshed. Canvas code has been updated to remove announcements after they are read in the Recent Activity view.
Concluded Courses and File Upload Quiz Questions
File submissions can be downloaded from a quiz in a concluded course.
Explanation: When a course was concluded by term dates, instructors were not able to select the Download All Files option from quizzes that included a File Upload Question. Canvas code has been updated to allow quiz file submissions to be downloaded from concluded courses.
Multiple User Roles and Classic Quiz Icon
Classic Quizzes are displayed as outlined quiz icons in the Assignments and Quiz pages for users with multiple roles.
Explanation: When a user with at least one student enrollment in any course viewed a Classic Quiz assignment, the Classic Quiz icon displayed as a solid icon as if it were a quiz created with the New Quizzes engine. If the user role is anything other than a student, the icons displayed correctly in the Modules page but not in the Assignments and Quizzes page. Canvas code has been updated to display quiz icons according to the quizzing engine and regardless of a user’s role.
