Filter SpeedGrader by Differentiation Tags?

I think there's a lot of potential for this in our larger courses, especially as a way to help randomize dividing/assigning students to TAs in the big, online courses (like a TA is randomly assigned to grade 50 students of the 300 in the course). I can see that I can filter the overall gradebook with differentiation tags (found under Student Groups), but that filtering doesn't seem to carry over when I launch SpeedGrader from there...which I was hoping for. I still just see all students in the course site.

If I change the course settings to launch SpeedGrader by student groups, I'm able to filter the gradebook by the differentiation tag variant and then launch from there and it displays the # of students I was looking for. This is the result I'm looking for but we generally prefer to avoid enabling that setting because it causes problems when a group isn't selected / shouldn't be used. 

Is this something others are struggling with?

I think the biggest use case that we have is in multisection cross-listed courses with multiple instructors. Since section enrollment doesn't always align with the instructor-student assignment, differentiation tags seems like a great fit, but not having the functionality in Speed-grader is a missed opportunity.

I 100% agree as this is the number 1 use case we see for Differentiation Tags!

This would be very helpful as a simplified way for teaching staff to divide up submissions for grading! There are some limitations with the current 'custom filter' feature in the gradebook, and it can be a bit confusing for teaching staff to grasp at first. I think this 'Filter SG by differentiation tags' feature could solve this issue and provide teachers with a simple and granular way to manage grading loads!

Has Canvas made any movement on this? Not being able to filter the SpeedGrader by Differentiation Tags is a deal breaker for my instructors at my college. If this was possible, Differentiation Tags would be incredibly helpful!

I am seeing the ability to filter by tag in Speedgrader now and it was recently noted in a blog about the feature. You need to actually HAVE tags in the course to see that option in the filter list, though.

@LMacaulay  - I just tested this to confirm but I'm still seeing the same behavior as before. I can filter the overall gradebook by differentiation tags easily enough. But the only way I can get SpeedGrader (specifically the grading interface where I can see the submission on the left and enter grades/fill out a rubric on the right) by Differentiation Tag is if I filter the overall gradebook by a tag(s) and also enable the "Launch SpeedGrader Filtered by Student Group" setting. While this can work as a temporary workaround, it's a bit confusing because differention tags are not student groups and enabling that launch by student group setting can get really tedious. That setting ends up causing more problems than it helps so I often don't recommend enabling it. 

The workflow I'd like to see is to filter the overall gradebook by a differentiation tag, open SpeedGrader, and have that same filtered list of students display in SpeedGrader (without needing to enable the "launch SpeedGrader filtered by Student Group" setting).

Ah yes, I see now what you mean. Perhaps the best would be to just have tags listed in the sections list or in their own list to filter by in Speedgrader regardless of how the gradebook is filtered first. More clicks and obscure settings really won't allow this to be helpful.
