How do I create a visual indicator for my institution?

In Elevate K-12 Analytics, you can create and manage visual indicators to display when you view data in your account. Visual indicators more succinctly communicate organizational goal progress by applying a color-coded overlay to applicable charts. When you create an indicator, you can select the metric to which the indicator should apply. You can also specify indicator type and range, apply filters, and manage indicator placement.

Note: Individual users can also create their own visual indicators

Configure Indicator

Enter details in the Configuration section [1]. Enter a name for the indicator in the Indicator Name field [2].

Specify the metric for which the indicator will display. Click the Metric drop-down menu [3]. Then select a metric from the list.

You can provide a description for the metric in the Description field [4].

To specify the indicator type, click the Minimum or Maximum radio button [5]. The indicator type defines indicator measurement as either exceeding a minimum threshold or ensuring a maximum threshold is not reached.

In the Values fields, enter a value in the Goal field [6]. Depending upon the type of indicator you selected, you can also add a value in the Minimum or Maximum fields [7]. The entered values display on the indicator bar [8].

Interpret Indicator Bar

Interpret Indicator Bar

When a threshold is exceeded (maxiumum) or not met (minimum), the goal is not met and the indicator status displays a red band.

When a value exceeds the minimum without reaching the stated goal or when the current value falls short of a maximum without reaching the goal, the goal is not met and the indicator status displays a yellow band.

When a threshold is below the goal (maximum) or above the goal (minimum), the goal is met and the indicator status displays a green band.

For example, if you configure a visual indicator for the Unexcused Absences metric, you can specify a Maximum indicator type. In the Value fields, you can add a goal value of two and a maximum value of two. Then, when viewing a chart that displays unexcused absences for all students in a course, the Visual indicator will display students who have two or fewer absences within the green band, students with ten or more unexcused absences within the red band, and any student with an unexcused absence count between three and nine within in the yellow band.

Select Filters

Select indicator filters in the Filters section [1]. You can filter your indicator by date [2] and scope [3].
