Employee Spotlight
Please join us in welcoming Teryn Odom to the Elevate K-12 Analytics Team. Teryn joins us as our new Product Manager. She comes to us by way of a reorganization across Instructure departments designed to increase collaboration and create efficiencies within the company. We are excited about the opportunity to work with Teryn as we continue to enhance the Elevate K-12 Analytics platform.
Here is a bit about Teryn’s background in her own words.
I grew up right outside of Charlotte, NC. I earned a BA in Spanish, Psychology, and Education from UNC-Charlotte as an NC Teaching Fellow, a Master of International Studies (with a concentration in International Education) from NC State University, and am currently a doctoral candidate in Educational Technology (with a concentration in learning analytics) at Boise State University. I am certified in Spanish, ESL, and School Administration. As part of my studies and internships, I was fortunate to study abroad multiple times and live in multiple countries (Spain, Costa Rica, and Mexico).
I was a teacher/professor in the K-20 spectrum for 15 years in NC's public schools. I held a variety of roles in traditional, flipped/hybrid, and fully online learning environments with the large majority of those years spent as an Online Teacher and Instructional Leader (similar to an Assistant Principal) for the North Carolina Virtual Public School (NCVPS), the U.S’s second-largest online school. While at NCVPS, I was humbled to be the 2017 NC Online Teacher of the Year. In addition to those roles at NCVPS, I was a Curriculum Writer, Course Development Leader, Course Developer, and Advisory Board Member at various points as well. Like most educators, I worked at least one side gig. I worked as a SME, Consultant, and E-Learning Support Specialist/LMS Admin for various organizations (both public and private) at various points, including the NC Department of Public Instruction.
Even though I'm no longer in public education, I consider myself an educator at heart and my passion for innovating in education in order to improve educators’ and learners’ experiences and outcomes has only strengthened. Since transitioning to Instructure, I have been fortunate to work with some amazingly talented people to support schools, districts, and states using Canvas, Mastery Connect, Elevate Data Hub, Impact, and Elevate Analytics. As the current Product Manager for Elevate Analytics, I am able to leverage my experience, skills, and expertise to ensure that we create and deliver products that solve real-world problems in education, that educators (and students) love, and that ultimately improve teaching and learning. I strongly believe in our company’s mission to elevate student success, amplify the power of teaching, and inspire everyone to learn together.
I currently live in North Carolina with my husband and four boys (ages 11, 9, 6, and 3) and enjoy volunteering at my boys' schools, traveling and exploring different cultures (have been to 27 countries), learning additional languages (recently Dutch, French, and Greek), reading, going to concerts, taking photos, fishing, and gardening. I hope to connect with you all soon in upcoming calls, at InstructureCon, and/or in the Instructure Community!
Support Update
Feature Highlight
Did you know that with our October release you can now use your pre-defined watchlists to filter a dashboard or exploration.
A helpful tip we wanted to share with you is to create an exploration for a metric outside of your watchlist filter by the watchlist and save the resulting chart. You can then add that chart to a dashboard so you have a quick look at those specific students you want to monitor.
Remember to visit the Elevate K-12 Analytics section of the Instructure Community for other helpful hints. Help other Elevate K-12 Analytics users by entering your questions or responding to others in the Elevate Question Forum.
