Add users by name

I would like to see the possibility to simply add users by name. 

Adding by e-mail, Login ID or SIS-ID (!) makes no sense to most non-admin users, and makes an otherwise nice feature cumbersome for teachers who would like to add other faculty, TA's and guests.

Regardless of method, an automatic lookup in the database as you start typing would be helpful as well. A feature which is already available in other parts of Canvas (e.g. when assigning assignments to users). 

Hopefully this is an easy enhancement which will ease the load on local Canvas support.

When we first started using Canvas about a year ago, I was surprised to see that ajax-style dynamic searching and filtering was available in a course's People screen
- in the Search box at the top and
- in the Edit Sections dialogue box
but it wasn't available in the same screen when selecting people to enrol in the course via the +People dialogue box.

Given that at our institution we are obliged to have the user's email address for SIS ID, Login ID and Email fields, it means that selecting people to enrol via the +People screen requires identifying these people by the longest possible identifier. The only shortcut is to copy and paste this email address into the text box in the +People screen.

As part of the new Ideas & Themes process, all ideas in Idea Conversations were reviewed by the Product Team. Any Idea that was associated with an identified theme was moved to the new Idea & Themes space. Any Idea that was not part of the move is being marked as Archived. This will preserve the history of the conversations while also letting Community members know that Instructure will not explore the request at this time.
