I recommend allowing teachers to add a new navigation button so they can tailor the LMS to their class.

You'll be happy to know that this is possible! Teachers can add as many links to the course navigation as they wish by using the Redirect Tool that is available in the Canvas App Center: How do I use the Canvas App Center in a course?
