Assign Students by Group to Google Assignments
Canvas groups are crucial for assigning modified work to special student populations. But, there is no way to assign a Google Assignment by group. This creates frustration and a time commitment that is nearly impossible for teachers to ensure all students are given accessible materials for learning and assessing. Some issues I have experienced include:
- Canvas groups do not integrate with Google Assignments. Assigning an assignment to groups only works with assignments created and distributed through Canvas.
- Student names have to be typed in one by one if a Google Assignment is not being assigned to an entire class. Even if you have a saved list of names, they will not populate if they are copied and pasted into the "Assign to" box. This is not an issue if there are two+ versions of an assignment for a teacher who only has 25-30 students...but for a teacher with 100+ students it makes it nearly impossible to assign typical and modified versions of assignments.
I would really love to see Canvas integrate their "Group Assignment: This is a group assignment" option with Google Assignments to alleviate this problem.
