Automated Parent Grade Alert (web)

As a teacher and parent, I think it would be very helpful if there were some automated alerts built in that let me know if my child drops below a certain grade threshold or overall GPA threshold.  I get alot of notifications when an assignment is turned in or graded, but this information is not entirely useful, depending on the teacher's volume of work assigned or timeliness of their grading that work.  I'm much more interested in the big picture progress of my student.  Once I am cued to look at their grades based on the overall performance, I can dig in and look more closely as to why this is happening.

Thanks for considering this!

I could definitely see this being useful for teachers, although for parents of students over 18 who aren't claimed as tax dependents, it would violate FERPA. So that would have to be taken into account.

Hi @denniscrystal -

Some of these features are already available if you use the Canvas Parent app!

What is the Canvas Parent app?

How do I set alerts for a student in the Canvas Parent app on my iOS device?

I really like that it is possible to set the "thresholds" for each student independently, as each student needs different coaching! I can see this being valuable for email notifications as well, so I think it's good that you started this conversation.
