Hi Canvas Community!

Our K-12 institution was recently exploring the option to enable Canvas Chat in our instance and had some suggestions that we would love to see implemented. 

  • Granularity of access - We would love for the ability to turn this feature on for select sub-accounts within our instance and not at the account level.
  • Feature Option - It would be fantastic to be able to set Chat to "Allow" in the account level admin panel so that teachers can toggle the feature option within their course settings.
  • Navigation Link - We would love for the option to enable Chat, while leaving the Navigation Link off by default so that teachers can choose if they would like to enable it within their course.

Thanks for sharing these ideas. Unfortunately, we won't be able to move this discussion forward as its current form, because it contains three separate requests for improvements to chat, each of which would have to be assessed, prioritized, and developed separately. Please read through How do I create a new idea conversation in the Canvas Community? for guidance on writing singularly-focused idea conversation prompts and then create each one as new; we'd be happy to move them forward when they come through.
