Canvas Commons Preview

This idea has been developed and deployed to Canvas

It would be great if you could preview the actual content you find in Commons before you download it.  This is especially true in regards to modules.  I want to be able to see the quiz questions instead of just knowing there is a quiz in it.

Brilliant  @eduplessis

How did you create the course that the public can view and interact with? I tried to do that, but still only can be access within our instance.

Hi traciebosket

It is easy, and you can learn how here: How do I customize visibility options for a course?

There is this disclaimer in the guide:

"Public: The course is available to anyone with the URL. If a public course is unaccessible to unauthenticated users, your institution may require a login and password to view all courses within their Canvas instance."

I hope this helps,

Kelley

I tried to do that a few times without any luck. I am going to try it again...

Okay, just opened it for the public. I downloaded it from the OEI.

Are you able to access it? https://vcccd.instructure.com/courses/6181

That's the issue I keep running into. Do you think it is an Admin settings in our instance?

I'm no expert but based on what people have said in the thread, yea.   (I'm a "Free for Teachers" user for the most part, so it's not an issue at all for  me!)

Most definitely an admin issue, Your school is using what appears to be an SSO portal, and that's a firewall we common strangers cannot cross!

Bummer,

Ahhh, that makes sense. Thanks!

Hoping to see quizzes made preview-able soon! I don't think answers are important - the instructor probably knows or has a good idea what the answer is already. If the instructor doesn't know what the answer is (or doesn't agree!) that's easy enough to view/edit once the quiz has been downloaded. (And, as others have said, there's a test-security issue with revealing the answers on Commons.) Quizzes can be time-consuming to create, and they are the most "Canvas-specific" resources available, therefore they are the things I am most likely to come to Commons to find.
