Canvas Inbox: Hyperlinks Need To Open A New Browser Tab When Clicked

When I write a message to my students using the Canvas Conversations Inbox tool, and if I post a hyperlink to a resource in the message, the link will, by default, take students away from Canvas when they click on it.

A simple programming solution would, by default, make all hyperlinks posted in a Canvas Inbox message open a new browser tab/window when clicked.  Let's stop forcing students out of Canvas when they often need to remain within Canvas while exploring other resources.

Quick note on this: I was going to submit a similar idea. Most websites, if you hold a modifier (depends what OS you are on, Command⌘ on Mac, Control on Windows) and click, it opens in a new tab. But for some reason, Canvas (At least on the calendar) does not do this.

As part of the new Ideas & Themes process, all ideas in Idea Conversations were reviewed by the Product Team. Any Idea that was associated with an identified theme was moved to the new Idea & Themes space. Any Idea that was not part of the move is being marked as Archived. This will preserve the history of the conversations while also letting Community members know that Instructure will not explore the request at this time.
