[Mobile - Canvas Parent] View assignment comments and rubrics

The Canvas Parent App needs to display assignment comments and rubric scores.

This is a huge oversight of the app and an integral part of parent engagement in student learning,

The purpose of assessment should be to progress learning. Evidence shows an overall mark or score on an assessment item does nothing to support the growth of student learning. It is the feedback provided on the work that does this. At the moment parents need to use the student app or log on via a browser to be able to see this integral part of teacher's assessment practice.

The mobile App is ideal for parents to use. It's at their fingertips and is a nice simplified version of Canvas. But if one of the main reasons schools provide parents access to Canvas is to support parent engagement with student learning then the App becomes pointless if comments and rubric scores given on the assignment arent displayed.

This is a must. Parents don't always have access to a computer and when on the run to check things these days, the app is the fastest and most available way for parents to check. This is an urgent needed addition which I find strange that it is not already done.

It's hard to believe this is still not a feature available to parents.  If parents can view the assignment comments in a browser, they should be able to view them from the app. @jackiemyers

Our parents really want to see the comments and rubrics as well.

They also like to have full access to the student courses so they can see all the content that a student see, (note: if they need to help them with what is being taught they can see it on canvas).

We know that you can use the front page/syllabus and create hyperlinks to modules etc, however they would this integrated by default as well, similar to how canvas student app works.

So we are looking at parents using canvas student app at the moment instead of canvas parent as it provides much more functionality for them. (note: we don't use canvas elementary). It doesn't have the segmentation of selecting by student, but they appear to be using the web version more presently because they want to see all the aspects of canvas, so thats why we are considering using canvas student for parents.

It would be really great if Canvas Parent could be modified to be more like the Canvas Student App, but with the ability to switch between students like it currently has now.

Wishlist for parent app:

- See teacher feedback
- See rubric. If possible, see the whole range of marks that they could have achieved and their descriptions, or if that's too large, just the chosen mark for the criteria.
- ability to see the student submissions easily next to the feedback.

We're currently asking our parents to use the student app with their credentials but many parents have been turned off Canvas because the parent app doesn't show feedback. We don't use any scores for feedback, only rubrics and comments.

We are about to move to 'progressive reporting' using CANVAS. Just learnt now that parents cannot see feedback on the parent APP. This will defeat the whole purpose of what we are trying to do.

Please allow parents to see feedback and rubrics using the Parent App.

Also, what would be helpful is if we can delay posting marks/grades to parents/students and let them just see the feedback until students have been provided the opportunity to do their own evaluation and reflect on the feedback provided before see their level of achivement.

Thanks

I wholeheartedly support this. The evidence for the importance of feedback for progressing a student's learning is compelling. According to the Evidence for Learning website quality feeback can have 8 months' impact on a student's learning. Canvas offers a fantastic way for teachers to provide feedback to their students, and to block parents from seeing this feedback through the app is very short-sighted. The right Parental Involvement in their child's learning also has an important part to play in a child's progress with their learning.

We urgently need this enhancement for the Parent App to enable best-practice feedback to students and families.
