Course Enrollment Duration for Open Entry / Open Exit Courses

We require the ability to develop courses that allow for open entry and open exit within a specified period, such as July 1 - June 30. Based on the example (below), we typically use these types of settings for ongoing course management.

Please advise. Thank you!

Hi @D_Montgomery -

This is something that can be accomplished with Catalog. You set a day to complete a course by, and when doing so, Catalog creates custom sections in the Canvas course. This should control that access time period.

What is Canvas Catalog?

How do I add a catalog course listing?

Hi Kristin,

Thanks for your directions. We understand that catalog settings allow us to set the number of days to complete a course. We also understand that course settings will enable us to Restrict students from viewing course after term end date. However, we need to restrict students from viewing the course after their enrollment date even though the course remains open.

In other words, our courses need to be available for enrollment within a 12-month data range. Students enroll any time within that date range and complete the course within 45 days. We do not want students to access the course after their enrollment ends, regardless of the student's completion status.

Please advise, thanks!

Hi @D_Montgomery -

Thank you for your reply! We can definitely open this idea with the emphasis being on Catalog functionality. Would that be okay with you?

Hi Kristin,

Yes, that would definitely help! Thank you for your consideration. Will you let me know when this is implemented?

Hi - With over 3,500 Open Ideas, there is no way to predict precisely when certain ones will be picked up by our Project Managers and engineers and then moved into production environments. However, with each Release, I update Ideas so those who comment or follow will get the first notifications.

As part of the new Ideas & Themes process, all ideas in Idea Conversations were reviewed by the Product Team. Any Idea that was associated with an identified theme was moved to the new Idea & Themes space. Any Idea that was not part of the move is being marked as Archived. This will preserve the history of the conversations while also letting Community members know that Instructure will not explore the request at this time.
