Customize Grading Scheme for Multiple Answer Quiz Questions

Currently, "multiple answer" problems on quizzes the total number of points is divided by the number of correct answers. Students are then awarded this fraction of points for selecting correct answers and penalized this fraction of points for selecting incorrect answers. We are requesting the ability to control the grading scheme for these types of problems. For example, one may want no penalization or a smaller percentage of points for certain incorrect responses.

Idea originates from Vincent Bonini and the Math Department at Cal Poly.

Thanks for sharing this idea. Would you please evaluate this idea in the context of the Multiple Answer functionality in New Quizzes? Instructors can select Exact Match or Partial Points with Penalty and can also vary the number of points possible per answer choice—and the existing functionality might fulfill your colleague's use case.

Details are in How do I create a Multiple Answer question in New Quizzes?

Once you and your colleagues have had a chance to start trying out the new quiz tool, please come back to update your idea as necessary. We'll keep it in Moderating status for now.

Thanks again.

The "new quiz" engine has replaced the old equation editor with "math quill", which may be easier for students that don't know LaTex but it is far less useful for those of us that know LaTex and are writing fairly sophisticated university level mathematics quizzes and exams.
