Dashboard doesn't help parents without listing the Grades, or trends

0 Likes

Why does the Parent Dashboard simply list the glass, year, STUDENT name (over and over) and no real important info like the student GRADES, or how the grade is trending (15% drop in the last week) - now THAT would be truly helpful!

Also, please suppress the repeated name of the student that shows on each tile and consider adding it as a dashboard pulldown for parents with multiple kids at one school. Our old "SchoolLoop" system made it much easier to see all this true dashboard-level info for each child very easily and quickly.

Also, consider minimizing the big picture and allowing parents to see the actual dashboard without scrolling so much. It's lots of space right now, with very little useful info.

@DouglasW1

We're sorry that you're encountering so many issues with the observer experience. This prompt contains a number of different ideas, so we won't be able to move it forward for a focused conversation. We'll do our best to help with each one.

The Observer Dashboard typically looks like the image in the View Dashboard section of How do I use the Dashboard as an observer?. The course cards display the names of observed students for each course in small type below the course identifying information.

We have a conversation underway requesting the ability to switch between students on the browser, and we invite you to add your remarks to it: Parents: toggle view between children. The Canvas Parent app makes it easy to switch quickly between students, so if you'd like to try out the observer/parent experience on a mobile device, you'll find instructions for downloading and using the app in Canvas Parent iOS Guide Table of Contents and Canvas Parent Android Guide Table of Contents

Observers can view grades on the dashboard by clicking on the View Grades button as depicted in How do I view Grades in the Dashboard as an observer? If you'd like to initiate a focused conversation requesting a new grade trending display for observers, please write one after reading through How do I create a new idea conversation in the Canvas Community? which provides guidance on writing a new idea.

Last, we have a dedicated group on this forum for observers and parents, and we hope you'll post discussions to that space to collaborate and sympathize with other parents and guardians and observers who are helping make students' learning experiences richer and more rewarding.

Thanks for all you do. Stay safe, and stay well. 🙂
