Derivative Symbol in Equation Editor

It appears that the symbol for derivatives in calculus does not display correctly in discussion posts. When inputting the symbol using "d/dx", this comes up after clicking the done button:

It should, instead, look like this:

@TristanDavis

Nice catch.

I was able to verify this bug. I did some playing around and discovered that if you put a space between the d and x, then it works like you want.

It doesn't add the space to the LaTeX, and when you look at the code, it comes up as \frac{d}{dx} which is what you would want.

Still, [almost] no one trying to enter a derivative is going to think to put a space in there (unless they are told to do so in the instructions by someone), so Canvas should fix this.

Hi @TristanDavis and @James -

I checked in with our Product Team and they agree that this behavior sounds more like a bug than a feature request. Please open a case and share the steps necessary to reproduce it. They'd like to take a closer look.

How do I contact Canvas Support?

As of today, this is still an issue. It seems to only impact dx and dy, but not other letters (e.g., dz, dw, dt).
