Do Not Auto-subscribe to Discussions

(1)

Currently, when an instructor replies to a discussion post, the instructor is automatically subscribed to that discussion.  There should be an option to disable this automatic-subscription.  Even better, disable all automatic subscriptions so instructor manual subscription settings will allow them to specify whether or not they want to be subscribed to a discussion.

I agree. We encouraged instructors to be active in discussions as appropriate, but it's a pain when they have to keep unclicking the subscribe button.

But they still want to be subscribed to the Ask the Class discussion.

So it would be great to be able to disable the auto-subscribe after responding feature.

Problem statement:

For the love of all things that are holy, please please remove the feature that automatically subscribes a user to discussion forum replies. I am inundated with emails, but every time I go back to participate with my students, it re-subscribes me, even though I clicked the button to unsubscribe to it. Angela

Proposed solution:

This should be a simple fix. If someone wants to subscribe, let them click on it. If they don't, DO NOT automatically subscribe them. Please and thank you!

As part of the new Ideas & Themes process, all ideas in Idea Conversations were reviewed by the Product Team. Any Idea that was associated with an identified theme was moved to the new Idea & Themes space. Any Idea that was not part of the move is being marked as Archived. This will preserve the history of the conversations while also letting Community members know that Instructure will not explore the request at this time.
