Establish a status flag for students who move to a new course, but still show them in Grades

With COVID-19, we allow students to change between Online and Face-to-Face courses throughout the semester.  Once the semester starts and assignments are graded, we need a way that we can identify students who have received grades in courses that they are no longer actively enrolled in.

At the end of the semester, only currently enrolled students are listed in the Canvas Course Gradebook.  We'd like a way to identify students who had participated in the course earlier in the semester.  So, instead of un-enrolling them from the course, maybe have a flag that indicates that this student was enrolled at an earlier time, and received a grade on an Assignment.

The only way to do this seems to be to retroactively re-enroll the student in the course at the end of the semester, allowing Instructors to see any grade that had been earned by the student during the time that they were enrolled in the course.

I know that the student submissions do not get deleted from a course, when a student is un-enrolled, so it seems as if there could be a filter in the Grades that would allow an Instructor to show all students that had transferred out earlier in the semester.  I'm not aware of any way to see this data via the API.

@ashley_hardesty,

Would deactivating the enrollment work to fulfill the idea request?
