Currently, the ability to "reply to" Announcements is enabled by default in Canvas. If an instructor wants to disable this functionality, it can be done on a course by course basis. We are requesting a feature to disable the "reply to" for Announcements at the account level. Instructors can then enable this feature as needed.

We have found that most of our faculty prefer that the "reply to" Announcements feature be disabled by default and would not expect the current behavior (which saves the student replies to the Announcements archive and also emails them to all of the students enrolled in the class via notifications).  Often times, when a student replies to an email from their instructor, they are asking a specific question that pertains to themselves and don't expect it to be sent to the entire class.

Thank you for your submission,  @cdroesse . There was a previous idea submitted in an earlier voting cycle (but archived): <- could this have achieved the same intended result? Just trying to assess if this idea is a duplicate (but in different form/approach) or something new.

Looking forward to your feedback. Smiley Happy

This says that Canvas has deployed this, but it hasn't done so effectively. Students get the announcements via their student email address and hit "reply" like they can do to Canvas Inbox messages, but instead of coming to me via Canvas Inbox, their reply to the announcement goes no where, and they don't get a response from their teacher and assume the teacher is just ghosting them. Canvas needs to let students know that the email reply doesn't work for announcements!
