Grades entered for students who are removed from the "Assign to" area should appear grayed out
If a student has submitted, participated, and/or received a grade for an assignment, quiz or other graded item, removing that student from the "Assign to" area for that assignment will remove that grade from the Grades area. Of course that grade data is still retained on the back end, so re-adding that student to the "Assign to" area will restore that grade, but this fact is not immediately obvious to most teachers. So if a student, group, section, or "Everyone/Everyone else" is removed in error, it is easy for a teacher to assume that they have lost all of that grade data, causing much distress. Having any such grades remain in the Grades area and simply be grayed out so that the teacher can still see them (even if the student cannot) would alleviate such concerns. It would also be a good way to inform the teacher that they have unassigned a student who has already taken a quiz or assignment so that they can take appropriate steps afterward.
