Group assignments without Canvas group rooms

It is a fairly normal occurrence that students deliver their group assignment in the Canvas group (files) rather than in the assignment. Most students use their own methods for collaboration (email, etc) so they don't need the Canvas group room within the course. The Canvas group room causes more problems than it gets used effectively.

My suggestion is that it should be possible to create group assignments, and have the option to create Canvas group rooms (rather than it happening automatically like it does currently).

As part of the new Ideas & Themes process, all ideas in Idea Conversations were reviewed by the Product Team. Any Idea that was associated with an identified theme was moved to the new Idea & Themes space. Any Idea that was not part of the move is being marked as Archived. This will preserve the history of the conversations while also letting Community members know that Instructure will not explore the request at this time.
