Importing courses: don't carry over Zoom meetings OR delete all at once

We're noticing Zoom meetings are importing onto the Calendar and Syllabus when importing courses that have Zoom calendar events.

Ideas:
  • Zoom meetings should not be able to be imported OR
  • Be able to delete all occurrences of a recurring Zoom meetings in the Calendar all at once
Currently, it's a confusing experience because:
  • Syllabus page will show Zoom meetings that are not on the Zoom page, and the meetings are not for that course. (screenshot 1)
  • On the Calendar, the behavior is more concerning when a current course is imported because those Zoom dates will be seen in the same month.
  • Recurring Zoom meetings can only be individually deleted in the Calendar(screenshot 2)
Notes:
  • We've been getting around this by mentioning to faculty members to not import All content and when Selecting specific content to not import calendar events.

  • Zoom meetings cannot be associated with more than one course (screenshot 3)— so it seems like they shouldn't be carried over when a course is imported

  •  Appointment groups show in Calendar and Syllabus (screenshot 4) and do not get imported when importing calendar events (screenshot 5)

  • Appointment Groups on a Calendar can be deleted all at once if created at same time via Group Details > Delete Group

  • Recurring Zoom meetings on Canvas Zoom page can be deleted all at once via Delete > Delete all of the occurrences

@audrey_p Thanks for writing up this comprehensive analysis of the problem statement. Have you asked Canvas Support to investigate the behavior, particularly with respect to "Zoom meetings cannot be associated with more than one course (screenshot 3)" and if you have, would you please provide the case number for the support interaction?

@Stef_retired Thanks for your response! We brought this up to our CSM, but not Canvas Support. Our CSM gave us suggestions on how to alleviate this experience, so we thought we’d put in this idea.

But, we just submitted a ticket to Canvas Support now, highlighting the screenshot 3 note, thanks. It's case #07292241.

@audrey_p Thank you! This issue has a number of moving parts and participants, so please let us know the response you receive from support.

@Stef_retired We received a response from support— we were given two ways to import specific items so that we avoid bringing over Zoom calendar events. (1. Using Copy to  and 2. Not checkmarking Calendar Events when selectively importing)

@audrey_p Thanks! Will those solutions resolve this issue for you?

@Stef_retired Thanks for asking— we already do those options and feel that they only resolve to a degree. We'd love to keep this idea open because not everyone realizes importing everything will cause this. And we end up having to figure out if it's better to reset and import their course or delete each Zoom calendar event based on what actions they've done since importing.

@audrey_p Thanks. We're checking with the various teams involved to see how we can best move forward with this, and we'll update here when we know more.

I would really like to see this implemented. Or at the very least, there should be a way to erase or hide old calendar events and links in the course summary. The links go nowhere and are acting like broken links anyway.
