Let us schedule a Publish Date / Time for Content Pages

(197)
This idea has been developed and is On Canvas Beta •  How do I access the Canvas beta environment?

For more information, please read through the Canvas Release Notes (2022-10-15)

Please allow us the ability to set a specific date and/or time for content pages to be published ahead of time.

It would be nice to be able to schedule those times in advance. There are times I don't want to publish something for students to see until after class and that requires remembering to go back and publish. Forgetting to do so only then creates chaos.  It'd be nice to just set those times once the page is designed and avoid those circumstances.

Yes, this is an important feature to add.  At the outset of the course, I'd like to have only the first few modules visible to students so that the navigation doesn't look so overwhelming when they first open the course. Restricting availability (but still having the module be visible) is not a good substitute for this.  Students get overwhelmed seeing an entire semester's worth of content/assignments showing all at once when they first login to the course. It would be nice if we could either have new modules publish on a schedule, or have new modules completely invisible to students until they have completed previous requirements.

Why hasn't this no-brainer feature been added after four years of discussion?

I agree with EVERYONE! We all need to be able to schedule pages to release at a given date / time. The previous poster is right on point. This is a no-brainer function that seems essential to ease our workload and the functionality of this platform.

Thanks for your attention!

I would like this as well.

I don't have time to read though the 7 pages of comments, but I can't imagine why this basic feature has been "Open for Conversation" for almost 4 years. Surely there has been enough conversation by now? This is pretty frustrating. I wish the dev team would either reject it (and let us know why) or move forward with it.

I desperately need this feature!  I post take-home quizzes on a "page," and I don't want at page published until the quiz is meant to be released.  That requires sitting at my computer at that time!  And if I forget, all hell breaks loose!

I also strongly support adding this feature. Please implement it asap!

This idea went up for voting in 2017 and must have lost or something. I attempted to make a new thread to give this idea new life. It was archived. This is something that other LMS platforms offer and would be such a relief for educators to have. What needs to be done to move this idea into the voting stage again?

My vote is YES, we need this feature in order to have peace of mind and be more efficient and effective in our roles.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Please let us schedule publishing on Canvas! This is not the same as setting the available dates/times because if the item is published, it will still be visible to students. There are several reasons why you won't want an item to be visible to students prior to some set schedule, but there is no way to do this on Canvas currently. This would help me and others with planning and optimizing the management of my online courses.

Please let me know if there is anything else that I/we can do to advocate for this idea.

In order to get traction, this needs more ratings. Click on the stars at the top. The 1,000 + kudos are not being counted - my understanding is that they are tracking the stars now. We have to rate each idea in order for it be seriously considered.

I agree!

The best thing to happen to the Pages option would be if a schedule to publish date/time option was installed.  This way a teacher could plan and create a page, post it to the module and not have to remember to publish is prior to students needing it.  Especially during this distance/remote learning time!  Thank you for considering this as a pages improvement.

Teachers should definitely be able to schedule assignments for future dates.

Is this idea still in the works or just in the discussion phase? I have the exact same desire. Because "publish" has to do with visibility, and making an assignment or discussion as "available" has to do with access, but you can only schedule the latter, it creates a frustrating situation where you either have to remember to manually publish things or publish them early, but then all the work is visible in advance and can give (young) students anxiety if they see a lot but they can't access it.

In short, it would be really useful to be able to schedule things to publish (and unpublish too) without having to remember to do it manually.

I would really like to see this option available. Sometimes I don't want the students to access a certain page until a specific time. Multiple times a day I get a content link error message. I would just like to be able to schedule pages like I do assignments.

Are there updates on this yet? I'm still here sitting by my computer to manually publish an item at the correct time... 😩😔

It really is amazing that this option hasn't been added after all this time.

Just adding my voice, in case it does any good:  The ability to schedule a date for a page to be published this would be an **extremely** useful feature.

This has been a major pain point. Has this been discussed recently?

It is criminal -- simply criminal -- that this common feature has not been implemented in Canvas after almost four years of "discussion." Who's making decisions over there?

Ah, lovely - another basic feature that has been requested for years and years without so much as a response from Canvas. Like the anonymous posting option and the ability to turn off Canvas messaging or at least set automatic replies, here is something else that would be standard in any other system but takes 6+ years to implement in Canvas. I have one day to plan my lessons for the upcoming week, and the need to take care of this nonsense all at once for the upcoming week is neither unexpected nor uncommon. Maddening.
