Make Immersive Reader available when Pages is disabled in Navigation

Immersive Reader is an important new addition to Canvas.  Many students have come to rely on this wonderful feature, those with visual disabilities as well as those who need language translation.  Thank you Instructure for making it available in Canvas!

Currently Immersive Reader is only available to students if Pages is enabled in course Navigation.  Since most teachers use Modules to guide students through the course, they disable Pages so as not to confuse students with a direct long list of pages they might browse through. If Pages is enabled, it would be necessary to unpublish all pages students shouldn't see, which is normally controlled in Modules.  Many teachers have a large number of pages they'd have to start managing in 2 places, not all pages are in modules.  We discourage teachers from enabling Pages (and Files) in course navigation.

Please allow Immersive Reader to appear on pages viewed through modules without requiring that Pages be enabled in course Navigation.

This might answer another issue too, having it available on the course Home Page. Immersive Reader does appear there if students can click on Pages. (The Front Page with Immersive Reader shows by default if you click on Pages.)

Hi, @Nancy_Webb_CCSF , this has been identified as a known issue and doesn't need to be considered in this forum; our engineers are working on a solution. If you'd like to receive updates on their progress, please initiate a support case referencing the known issue and the engineering ticket MAT-395.

Thanks.
