Missing Assignment Report

This idea has been developed and deployed to Canvas

For more information, please read through the Canvas Release Notes (2020-09-19)

Teachers would like to print a report listing only Missing Assignments.  This report would be sent to academic support personnel to facilitate assignment completion.  Teachers should be able to print the "Missing Assignment Report" directly from Canvas.

@garth ‌ I would love to hear a little more about the LTI tool you've developed.  As someone stated above, this is almost a non-negotiable for K-12 users.  I have teachers wanting to run this report at the course level, but more importantly, principals wanting to see this report from the sub-account or account level.  Anything would be helpful!  Thanks!

@jcrawford ‌ you can take a look at this post and see if it helps:

The post talks about how to use the API to traverse the gradebook, all assignments and all submissions to flush out what's missing as well as inspect for potential grading errors.  Do you have developer resources avaialable to you?

Sadly, I would be doing most of the developing and my programming skills are beginner to mediocre at best.  I am a district integration specialist that came from the classroom... I would say I'm better at tweaking resources that developing them.

@jcrawfo  If I had a simple script I could give you I would.

I have been thinking about publishing some source code for this, but it keeps getting pushed back.

I'm extremely tight on time right now, but will try.

@garth ‌ I totally understand being tight on time right now... #backtoschool equals #backtocrazy.  If/when you do get something worked out, just be sure to tag me in it.  And thanks for getting back with me and being so willing to help!  Really, really appreciate it!

The Radar idea stage has been removed from the Feature Idea Process.  You can read more about why in the blog post Adaptation: Feature Idea Process Changes.

This change will only impact the stage sort of this idea and will not change how it is voted on or how it is considered during prioritization activities.  This change will streamline the list of ideas 'open for voting', making it easier for you to see the true top voted ideas in one sort, here.

Hopefully "missing" includes those who simply does not have a grade entered for an assignment (when there is just a dash) and not just those you you mark specifically as "missing." This would be helpful for checking for gradebook errors and making sure the teacher did not forget to record a grade for a student. This is very important when you teach over a 150 students and have to scroll through every single line looking for missing numbers.

@jcrawford ‌ I am wondering if you were able to get this working in your Canvas instance.  Thanks!

For this to be useful, there MUST be a way to remove the "missing" tag from assignments that are turned in but not submitted to canvas!

I disagree with the poster above who thinks ungraded assignments should be included in missing assignment reports.  Something is not missing just because I did not grade it.  That's an entirely different report.

The new gradebook allows you to remove (or add) missing and late labels as needed.  You can switch to the new gradebook by going to the feature options tab on the settings page of your course.
