New Analytics: Anonymisation

I suggest to add a functionality where the admin can turn on "anonymous messaging" /anonymisation in general for New Analytics globally (on account level).

Problem with messages:

  • Seeing the names of students who submitted late/ didn't view a resource / didn't participate etcetera can influence the instructor's perception of the students.
  • Displaying the names of students who have/have not met certain criteria can get dangerously close to profiling/surveillance.
  • The instructor does not necessarily need to know the names of the students when sending them a message (a friendly reminder).

Problem with names in general:

  • Instructors who want to gain a general overview of their course room, online activity levels and use of resources do not need to know the students' names to do so.
  • Displaying individual names can change the instructor's perception of the student in question and raise fears of profiling/surveillance.

Proposed solution:

  • Add a feature where the global admin can switch on anonymity for New Analytics and/or anonymous messaging for the entire account.
