Parent/Observer Code, Not Student Login Credentials

This idea has been developed and deployed to Canvas

A parent/observer code should be available for each student. When parents/observers are creating accounts, they can use the provided 'student code' to link to their student, rather than using the student login credentials. 

• Parents might not have the login credentials.
  • Think shared custody, etc.
• We cannot provide login credentials (passwords are encrypted).
• Parents could use the credentials to login normally having full student access.

Other LMS's have this 'student link code' feature and would enable more seamless access for parents and for us to better support parents providing detailed instructions as well as immediate and timely assistance.

This is a great development and step to helping parents link to their kids. We are preparing to deploy, but cannot find a streamlined way to accomplish this. It seems there is no way to mass generate/export pairing codes for students. Clicking through all of our kids one-at-a-time is infeasible. Asking kids to share with their parents is a step that we can easily overcome by generating the codes for the parents and sharing with them in a form letter.
