Pass back to SIS should have 3 states, not just 2

I would like to suggest that the pass back icon for assignments have 3 states. The 3 states would be:

  • Will be synced on next Sync to SIS (green)
  • Will not be synced on next Sync to SIS (black)
  • Was synced before, but nothing will happen on next Sync to SIS (red?)

Many teachers are creating many assignments in Canvas. It just seems inefficient to be constantly resyncing modules that have already been synced. On the other hand, if the user turns off the pass back, then you have no visible indication about whether it was synced in the past- you'd have to go back and forth between Q and Canvas to double check. It would just be nice to have that 3rd state so that you could be efficient with syncing and know what has been synced and what has not.

Thanks for starting this conversation.  One thing to keep in mind is that because of accessibility we'd never want to communicate a status through color alone.  It looks like you're looking to get a quick indicator of the status of sync for each assignment & there may be a way to do that that does not rely on color?

Hi Renee,

I am asking for more than just a color change.  The pass back icon should have 3 distinct states- like a 3 way toggle switch.    The color would just indicate what state the pass back icon is currently in.  But the icon would actually have 3 distinct functions.   Your last question is closer to the mark.   There should be a 3rd state on the pass back icon that let's you know whether a sync has already occurred without forcing that assignment to be a part of the next sync.
