Provide feature to auto-link module items within pages

The open source LMS Moodle has an auto-link feature. Here is how it is described:

Auto-linking is a feature by which words or phrases used within a Moodle site are automatically linked to glossary or database entries, or activity and resources within the course with the same name.

This allows you to create a page like this one from my HTML/CSS class:

WEEK 16 - Pulling it all together

Objectives

  • Present the results of your work

Due

Activity

In which the links above that match course module items are automatically linked to those module items.

This is a good design principle. The module becomes a definitive repository of critical information for each course and reduces the possibility of links in pages falling out of date or breaking as the course is tweaked. Further, it reduces the work by beleaguered instructors.

In Moodle, the feature can be switched on or off for each course in settings.

As part of the new Ideas & Themes process, all ideas in Idea Conversations were reviewed by the Product Team. Any Idea that was associated with an identified theme was moved to the new Idea & Themes space. Any Idea that was not part of the move is being marked as Archived. This will preserve the history of the conversations while also letting Community members know that Instructure will not explore the request at this time.
