Student PDF Annotations on Web Browser Version

Recently, a new feature was added to the Canvas App, which allows students to "mark-up" PDFs directly in Canvas and submit them. This is amazing! However, it s only a feature on the App, and not in the normal web browser version for students with Laptops or Desktops. This is a great feature that Canvas has, and I just wish the students at our school (who all have district-provided laptops) could do it too!

This idea has been developed and deployed to Canvas

For more information, please read through the  Canvas Release Notes (2021-05-15).

It would be a great feature for students to be able to use annotation tools similar to what already exists in SpeedGrader.

Many schools are now using canvas as there main lti now due to the o line learning. Schools are giving out chromebooks not mobile devices. Primary kids cannot link their work. Please make canvas easier for primary kids. They need to be able to annotate right on their work and push a button turn in. They cannot send a link.

Primary Students need to have seesaw talk to canvas directly. Students can not send links. Since many schools are online and use chromebooks Canvas needs to make annotating easier for primary kiddos.

Yes! Let's get this developed!  So much is done by PDF right now.

Yes, please add this feature ASAP!!!

Many of the educational materials publishers have shared with teachers are in PDF format.  Now with COVID forcing distance learning, students are struggling to annotate and submit these PDF resources without using cumbersome 3rd party apps.

We want students to focus on the learning, not the technology.  Making this a built in feature of Canvas would make the technology "just work" !!

For the kids!

I would be most grateful if Canvas would create a native PDF notation feature, especially accessible from our elementary school students' Chromebooks. We want students to be able to highlight in passages, prove their work, respond to answers directly on text, and all those valuable resources we teach them to do on paper copies. This would be a great asset for both students and teachers. I urge you to please strongly consider adding this feature to your Canvas backpack of tools.

THANK YOU!

Our school adopted Canvas K-5 after success with using it for secondary classes. The drawback is that even though there are apps that could bridge this gap, they are not easy to use and understand for our youngest students and some are not available on the devices our school uses. The ability to annotate PDFs would make the transition to working on a virtual platform easier for our students because it would involve fewer steps to get to work on their content. As Canvas fills the need for a virtual hub, I think it needs to listen to those in the elementary grade levels to see what features would be useful for them to successfully use Canvas.
