Use Login ID in Bulk Download

When doing a bulk download of Assignments it would be useful to include the student's Login ID in the filename for each submission as well as / or instead of the student's name.

Often there are very similar looking names which, combined with the fact that any spaces or hyphens get removed and the first names and surnames are concatenated with no separator, means the files do not appear in the same order as the list in the Gradebook. The lengthy filename means that sometimes it takes a while to decipher which student a file actually belongs to.

I have to mark externally to Canvas as my module deals with programming and on more than one occassion I have found I have added the grades to the wrong student.

Would asking the students to name their assignments with their login ID that they post be a temporary workaround?

I have noticed that students really don't have to name their files when they upload them because canvas exports them with their name and assignment name or so.

@ChandlWM That is certainly a possibility and I may do that next year to see how it goes.

However, my worry is if a student uploaded a file using a different student's ID in the filename. I know it's unlikely, and I can't think of a way a student could benefit from doing such a thing, but the possibility cannot be discounted.

So, I wouldn't be happy unless I checked the automatically generated filename against the student names anyway - just in case. And we are talking about a class of 150+ students.
