changing the background color of only one side of a table

when creating assignments, pages, discussions, etc., it would be nice to be able to change the background color of only one column or row, or even one particular cell. Currently you can only change the background color of the entire table.

It's possible to change the background color for a row, column, or cell of a table in the Rich Content Editor. To change the background color for a column, you can select the column, open column properties, and change the background color in advanced settings. Similarly, you can select a row and open row properties or select a cell and open cell properties to edit the background color of a row or cell.
