narrative comments for grading periods

I would like to be able to leave a narrative comment reflecting on each student's performance during a grading period that could persist with student data in the course. It is currently only possible to leave comments in response to specific submissions.

for schools using MTC or narrative assessments, this would make CANVAS a more desirable LMS than others on market

As a teacher at a school using mastery based learning, narrative comments have always been a required component of progress reports. Adding this feature to Canvas would align its mastery features with what MTC teachers are actually doing and consequently make our work much, much easier while providing students students a single location to view their mastery of outcomes and teachers' narrative feedback. Please add this feature!

As part of the new Ideas & Themes process, all ideas in Idea Conversations were reviewed by the Product Team. Any Idea that was associated with an identified theme was moved to the new Idea & Themes space. Any Idea that was not part of the move is being marked as Archived. This will preserve the history of the conversations while also letting Community members know that Instructure will not explore the request at this time.
