Does anyone integrate Sharepoint with Canvas?

We are moving to using sharepoint next year and would like to integrate it with canvas. We would like to know if anyone has done the same.

What are your thoughts/issues/any tips?

If you look at the new Office365 LTI integration it will allow you to link to documents from the OneDrive for Business directly or embed Office documents as part of a Module.  It should also resolve some of the auth issues the older integration had.  Its currently in Public Beta I believe.

Hi Isobel,

We didn’t end up trying but will do in the new year, and then also hoping to tie it in with the 365 integration. Will let you know how we go.

Hi ilana@coem.edu.au, curious to know how you went with your idea of linking SharePoint files to Canvas. Did you manage to get it to work?

We attempted to do this with an Office 365 site (which is essentially SharePoint) and we ran into a few problems.

The main problem was that the document links were constantly forcing the teachers and students to login to Office 365. It could very well be that we just didn't have enough knowledge on how to properly setup the site, but that was the problem we kept running into. When we made things "public" (so that people didn't have to login) then anyone could search and find files in SharePoint even if they weren't a member of the Canvas site because we made it public on the SharePoint side.

The only integration I'm aware of is the OneDrive for Business LTI which allows students to submit files that are stored in OneDrive.

We currently save all our documents on our server and then upload into canvas before placing into modules.

With SharePoint we are hoping to link to our files/documents directly from Canvas so we can cut out the middle steps.

It would also mean that any time a document is updated in Sharepoint, we wouldn't have to upload to Canvas each time as it would directly link to the document itself that is being updated.

What kind of functionality in SharePoint are you looking to link to Canvas? Are you moving to SharePoint or Office 365?

ilana@coem.edu.au, I'm not sure if this will help much or not, but I found this document that mentions SharePoint - Configuring ADFS to work with Canvas. I'm also going to share this with the Canvas Admins and Canvas Developers groups to see if they can provide some assistance.
