Canvas' hostile take-over

What is the motivation for Canvas' hostile take-over of what should be
instructors' choices?

Man should decide over machine, not the other way around.
Canvas does not respect that rule. It should be an instructor's
choice to use a calendar or not, to use a to-do list or not.
There can be no doubt that Canvas hostile take-over is intended.
From a programming perspective it would be trivial to allow
instructors to shut off undesirable functions.

The garbage information Canvas produces can be especially
damaging for some student (including students with disabilities).

As an instructor it is my responsibility to make sure that the information works
for all students. If I am responsible I should have choices.
Canvas does not respect that.

Can anyone guide me to documents that describe Canvas'
hostile take-over philosophy? Also, are other LMS similar in this
respect?

Cheers,
Kristina
