Gradebook Export/Import from Blackboard to Canvas

Jump to solution

Hello all,

I need some assistance here about importing Blackboard gradebook into Canvas gradebook.

How to make sure the gradebook exported from Blackboard able to override to Canvas? Is there a specific cvs file format I need to modify from the Blackboard gradebook to ensure all grades imported accurately to each user/student? I hope what I am asking here make sense.

Please help to share this post around even if you don't know the answer. Or share with the right group you think they might know the answer.

Thank you very much!

Sincerely,

Jonathan

I am not familiar with Blackboard, so I would follow these steps:

  1. Download the gradebook from the Canvas course to create a properly formated csv file
How do I download scores from the Gradebook?
How do I download scores from the Gradebook?

  2. Translate the Blackboard grades into my Canvas csv file

  3. Upload my adjusted csv file back into the Canvas gradebook
How do I upload changes to the Gradebook?
How do I upload changes to the Gradebook?

Having come from Blackboard to Canvas...I would concur with Garth's reply above. Blackboard's gradebook works and functions much different than Canvas, therefore I would not try to import any grades directly into a course. In fact, I am almost certain that they wouldn't go in properly based on the unique naming structure of the columns, users, etc. Download the Canvas course grade CSV, copy/paste in the Blackboard grades, and then re-import the CSV to the Canvas course.

Thanks a lot Shane! I agreed and figured something out that might works better for our schools since we do not have too many courses running when we launch it in Jan 2017. That's a good news! Happy Holidays!

Thanks a lot Garth for the prompt response! Happy Holidays!!!
