Groups: Do making announcements send a notification out to team members?

I'm not able to find this anywhere (though I have the feeling the answer may be out there.)

I'm getting complaints from users in groups who aren't getting email notifications of announcements. They are members of the groups. So now I"m wondering, does Canvas send out email notifications of announcements made from groups? I looked on the notifications page, and "announcements" preference only states announcements from courses.

 @galyenk ​, are these account-level groups or course groups?  I just tested making an Announcement in a course group; student members of that group were notified according to their Announcement notification preference.  I was also notified based on Announcement Created By You (which I set to ASAP).

We don't use account-level groups here; I am unsure whether notifications are generated for those.

Great! Have the students double-check:

  • That they have Announcement notifications set to ASAP for an email channel. That's the default, but sometimes students turn that off because they want to stop receiving notifications from certain courses.
  • That their email address (same one specified for Announcement notifications) does not currently have a Bounced Communication Warning triangle:
