Can you please give me some tips on what people wear/bring with them to survive the weather of CO and what is the expected dress for this conference?
I'm sure your local thrift store or halloween store has some austin powers look alike wardrobe around! Please have an Austin Powers face off with @kenneth_rogers ! haha
I think my wife might actually kill me if I showed up in public in an Austin Powers outfit...even if she's 1000 miles away!
That's fair. Come to think of it, if my husband were in that attire I might pass out from the severity of my own eye roll. :smileylaugh:Somehow its just humorous when its not you're significant other. hahaha.
I fully support the Austin Powers attire!
First year attendee here, so my plan is to travel super light (1 carry on), leave lots of room for goodies & dress casual... maybe I will borrow a tie for the 'dress-up' 'fancy pants' party... If I can go again next year, I will have a better idea on what I can comfortably tote along & travel with ![]()
"leave lots of room for goodies" is great advice!
What a great thread this is and a really practical question. I overdressed last year and really regretted it (in fact went hurrying to the local store to buy shorts!) I too have 'T's from last year which will get brought out as well as the London Canvascon one.
If I'd thought about it, it's in the mountains! Suits just wouldn't work!
This one may though - Bond is a three ringer Royal Navy after all!
Two things...
1) The impression I get is - casual is good - but be comfortable in what you want to wear. If you are comfortable in slacks - then more power to you! If you want to wear yoga pants and lounge in the sessions - I don't think anyone would care. To the veterans: am I correct in my assumption?
2) @a_birch - if anyone can pull off that Bond look it'll be one of our friends from across the pond. I just don't feel like one of us Yankees could do it!
Absolutely correct! As long as you are comfortable, wear what you would like. I've seriously seen people wear jean shorts and t-shirts to slacks and button up shirts. Yet, no one looks out of place and no one cares. Heck, Josh Coates (Instructure CEO) dresses casual and wears canvas looking tennis shoes when he gives the keynote. 😉
Wear what makes you feel good and confident, just remember the location!
Hilariously Bond has been played by a Scot (Sean Connery) and this Irishman (Pierce Brosnan) - as to the look, wrong service for me - I did my 30 years in a different uniform!
I always thought your service people looked really smart - although I get cross when you guys salute without wearing a hat...
Well, at least we now know who will keep us all in check!
Nahh - as big an (old) hooligan as they come these days - retired nearly 11 years ago and absolutely loving my second career in HE - although am starting to look towards 'proper' retirement now...
I have Instructurecon envy already Jessica
Have a blast and learn lots for the rest of us.
It sounds like some people have been receiving email from InstructureCon on what to wear for certain events, and other important info. I have not received a single email (probably because my boss signed up our group, and if she is getting them, they might be in her spam since she doesn't check). I am really curious as to what I have been missing. I have sent an email to InstructureCon help (and I emailed Kona). If anyone can share anything here too, that would be great.
Thanks,
Susan
I forwarded you the email I got with more information. In addition if you go to the conference website and scroll to the bottom of the page you can join the mailing list by entering your email address to get updates - Instructurecon July 25-27, 2017 | An Edtech conference in Keystone CO.
Hope this helps!
Can someone please pass on the email about the events/dress?
@mwilliams , just emailed it to you. If you don't see it make sure and check your junk/spam folder. I've heard that other people have had problems with it getting caught there and not coming through.
@kona Could you shoot that to Stefanie, too. She was asking me about it, and I had stupidly deleted it.
Agent K
I assume you're talking about the one and only stefaniesanders? If so, then it's done! 🙂
My bad, I was almost certain there was one, and only one, Stefanie!
🙂
Just blush and accept the compliments!
Thank you!! Got it.
Very good!
For anyone that's interested I copied the full text of the email with extra information about the nightly parties and added it here - https://community.canvaslms.com/message/75311-instcon-party-propaganda
I have to say, I am a Texas girl and I was FREEZING for much of the conference last year! This year I plan to bring layers because even indoors, during the day I found it to be pretty chilly. But coming from the heat and humidity I am used to, mid-day, outside in Keystone was pretty chilly, as well. Evenings was under armour and hoodie weather for my crew! I don't mean to scare anyone but if you are wimpy like me, you may want to add one or two really warm articles of clothing just in case!
Srsly, Carrie!
Last year one of our crew who lives in Florida needed gloves for an evening event - can't hurt to bring a full wardrobe if you are a low lander.
I almost forgot to pack my gloves this year! They just made it into the bag this morning before I left.
Gloves are a great tip - I added them to my packing list. Thank you!
I am in Boulder, and I will be carrying wear for every temp. That is normal for Colorado since at any time in Colorado, the fours seasons are always present somewhere. In the Winter, we sometimes wear T-shirts and keep a sweater and coat in the car for later.
I'm loading the car right now and we have everything from shirts and tank tops, to rain jackets and umbrellas, to jeans, long sleeves, and jackets with winter hats! It looks like we are packing for a full year of seasons in one trip. 😉
I'm from Puget Sound and before that Alaska, and we turn into a nudist colony at 65 degrees. The only protection I found I needed last year was a hoodie for those drizzles they call rain that pop in every afternoon. Luckily, I have some nice ones from past InstCons.
One cool thing about those afternoon showers - wow, did we have an awesome lightening and thunder show one of those days! The management tried to chase us off the balcony, but it was just too cool to leave.
Agent K
I'm hoping for some of those thunder and lightning shows! they were absolutely fabulous last year ![]()
I agree with Kelly, the weather forecasts look great & also being from the Great PNW we do indeed get a bit crazy when the weather is over 65... though I am a weirdo& wear a jacket year round (even in 90 degree weather) LoL.
I'm looking forward to it! Thunder 'n Lightening storms would be a great bonus too!
Ok, I confess to having to look up what the Great PNW is... now I know!
Bonus! You learned your something new for the day! I tend to forget that very few people use PNW to describe our little corner...
I think my little corner would fit several times in your little corner! I'm NE coast of the UK - City called Hull
Ah, you will do just fine with the temps at InstCon, @a_birch although beware the altitude! And turnabout is fair play, I just Googled Kingston upon Hull, nice!
You are traveling long and far to join us at InstCon! Stop by the Community Booth to meet us! We love our United Kingdom friends!
Agent K
Certainly, will drop by - we have a growing and active community in the UK now Kelley, I think there are 19 of us from the UK at InstCon this year ![]()
Oh man, we will have a party! I love parties!
