Sections listed in the Messages - Student Email??
We have a concern over students seeing the section number for other students in Messages. Teacher Apple has cross listed 4 courses. Each course has a slightly different section number.
0112A-4 Academic level students
0112IA-4 Students receiving instructional support due to IEP or 504
0112TA-4 Students receiving additional support due to ESL
0112CA-4 Students with a content master teacher who follows them
If a student attempts to message an entire course, they select the section and the students can view the course numbers which may identify a student in a "special section". We see this as a FERPA violation. Is there a way to allow students to email a COURSE but not a SECTION?? See below - the CA courses are Sp Ed students and they are listed separately.

Hi Susan,
I don't think there is a way to allow student emails to a Course and NOT a Section.
I know we allow teachers to rename sections so they can name the section however they like. Would this help to resolve your concern?

Thanks for the input but renaming the sections still leaves some students isolated in a section with themselves only or a handful of students. We're trying to prevent the students in the main section from saying - "hey why is Susan in a section by herself?"

We now have a CSS file that will hide the sections. We are testing it in our test site It allows students to message all students in a course with cross listed sections but does not reveal the section the other students are in . We think this is a good solution but we have to test to ensure there are no unintended consequences

That's great news Susan! It would be great if you could share the CSS file or code you are using to do this here in the community. This would allow others to benefit from this solution as well.
Also, please keep us posted on how this goes in your testing.
