Mastery Path - Grading

I want to use mastery paths, but I am wondering how the grading works.  By that I mean if a learner masters the subject quickly by completing the mastery assignment with say 10 points, but anther learner has to take a path with more learning that has graded assignments and accumulates more then the 10 points how is the final grade calculated?

Along with this questioning, if you set up an "or" between two assignments with each graded, does the "Or" then only allow one of the scored assignments to calculate in the final grade?
