Announcements index in course navigation menu intermittently stays hidden when an announcement is added

This case was unable to be reproduced. If behavior persists, please submit a new support case.

Description

Announcements index in course navigation menu intermittently stays hidden when the first announcement is added to the course rather than becoming visible as expected. This seems to resolve itself over time.

This has historically been hard to reproduce (see linked jiras) but crops up every term start when you have a convergence of lots of first announcements and more system load.

Expected Behavior

The Announcement index is enabled in the course navigation menu by default. So when content is added it should automatically become visible/un-hidden.

Workaround

Updating the course settings in any way should cause the Announcements tab to become visible.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Create a new course

  2. Add an announcement (do not make it delayed or add any additional settings)

  3. Note that the Announcement tab stays hidden with the “no content” note on the eye/hidden icon

If this doesn’t happen start over from step one again, this is an intermittent behavior
