The Instructure Community will enter a read-only state on November 22, 2025 as we prepare to migrate to our new Community platform in early December. Read our blog post for more info about this change.

This behavior has been resolved and deployed to the production environment as of 10/8/25.
When the “Allow creation only in the Manually Created Courses sub-accounts” is enabled on the account level, teachers run into a page error when attempting to use the Copy this course feature for any course that is outside of the Manually Created Courses sub-account.
Teacher should be able to use the Copy this course feature.
In case this is expected behaviour with the “Allow creation only in the Manually Created Courses sub-accounts” setting, the Copy this course button should not appear for teachers.
No workaround exists at this time.
Prerequisite: Have a teacher that is enrolled in a root-account course, in the root account settings, enable Teachers to be able create courses and ‘Allow creation only in the Manually Created Courses sub-accounts’ selected.
As the teacher access Settings in the course.
Select Copy this course.
Click on Create Course.
Observe that the process fails with “Something went wrong during copy course operation. Reload the page and try again.”
