Items inheriting module assign to dates do not display the correct date

Canvas

This issue was declined by the product team.

Description

When using the modules page's assign to feature to assign an entire module, if you first assign a module to "Everyone" and later change it to a specific section the assign to dates that you filled out for "everyone" will persist on the modules page until you set a new date for the section on each assignment even though the "everyone" dates are no longer valid.

Expected Behavior

The dates on the items in the modules should not differ from the assign to side-panel, if the module is assigned to a section instead of everyone.

Workaround

No workaround exists at this time.

Steps to Reproduce

Prereq: A course with at least two sections, a module, an assignment with a due date for everyone.

  1. Add the assignment to your module, and see that the due date is displayed under the item’s name.

  2. Click the three dots on the right of the assignment in the module, and select assign to. See that the due date is displayed as normal.

  3. Click the three dots in the module header, click assign to, and assign the module to a section.

  4. Repeat step 2, however, you’ll now see that the dates have been cleared out, and the assign to panel does not match the due date that is displayed under the Item’s name in the module.
