Engineers are currently investigating the issue.
In the Rich Content Editor (RCE), the default color options for text do not consistently meet WCAG 2.1 AA contrast requirements (4.5:1) against a white background. This has led to accessibility checker flags and complaints from schools regarding poor legibility—particularly for default green and red color options.
Update the default RCE text color palette to include only colors that meet or exceed the 4.5:1 contrast ratio against a white background.
No workaround exists at this time.
Open the Rich Content Editor (RCE) in any editable Canvas area (e.g., a Page or Assignment).
Type and highlight text, then use the text color tool to apply one of the default color options (such as red or green).
With the background set to default white, observe the low contrast between the text and background.
Run the RCE Accessibility Checker and note that it flags the text for insufficient color contrast.
