[OPEN] Graded checkpoint discussions within nested sub-accounts do not appear in calendar

Issue Documented: 2025-06-04
Canvas

Engineers are currently investigating the issue.

Description

If an instance has graded checkpoints disabled at the root account, but enabled on a nested sub-account (must be two accounts deep,) any graded discussion checkpoint that is made within the nested sub-account will fail to appear on the students Calendars.

Expected Behavior

All graded discussions with checkpoints should appear on a users calendar regardless of where it was made.

Workaround

No workaround exists at this time.

Steps to Reproduce

Prerequisites: A Canvas instance that has a sub-account created, and a second nested sub-account under that account as well. It’s required that the Discussion Checkpoint feature option is disabled at the root, but enabled in the sub-account where the discussions are being made. A course in the nested sub-account with a student enrolled.

  1. In the nested sub-account, create a graded discussion that includes checkpoints with due dates. Publish and save.

  2. Act as a student from the course and navigate to your calendar, notice the discussion does not appear as expected.
