Two Changes for New Analytics

Hi everyone! Thanks so much for your feedback and patience as we roll out our latest version of course analytics. We hear you and want to make this transition as smooth as possible for your institution. 

 

Here are the changes we are currently making: 

  1. In place of an account-level feature option, we are creating New Analytics to be a course-level feature option. This change will let admins allow New Analytics on a course-by-course basis. 
  2. When the feature option is enabled, the New Analytics course navigation link will be visible by default. If the feature option is hidden, the navigation link will also be hidden.

 

Please watch the existing Analytics release notes document for updates on when these changes are available in your production environment. We anticipate we can get these updates to you this week.

Katrina, thanks for the update and for Instructure's responsiveness to customer concerns about the recent changes to the New Analytics tools.

 

One additional piece of feedback I wanted to provide is regarding your second point, that "When the feature option is enabled, the New Analytics course navigation link will be visible by default. If the feature option is hidden, the navigation link will also be hidden." Our institution would strongly prefer that the course navigation link be hidden by default. This is especially true if enabling the feature option replaces the legacy Course Analytics button with the link to the New Analytics tool -- a nav menu link becomes duplicative, and may not be needed at all.

Hi, Steven,

The choice was made to make it visible by default as the feedback we received was that too many institutions were struggling with finding the link when the feature option was enabled. With the feature option now moving to the course level, the link only displays in a course if the feature option is also enabled in the course. 

Admins can still choose to not allow the feature option at all, which will not allow it to be visible for individual courses, should you want to go that route.
