We are a community college in California. I have a teacher who is really good at creating quizzes, and he found that when you set a question in New Quizzes to Zero ("as it is not necessarily needed for the grade but a good for review question") that it still needs to be graded and set to zero. Is there any way that these can default to a value that will not require a teacher to grade the assignment. Is there a better type of question that can be used?
Hi @mmoore1! It's true that when you have an essay question or another type that requires grading like a File Upload question, it has to be graded even though it's worth zero points. I think it's a good suggestion, however, it looks like it has been suggested in the past and never implemented. https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Idea-Conversations/New-Quizzes-Ungraded-Essay-Question-0-points-a.... I have seen folks create entire assessments worth zero points in order to ask review or survey questions. You could also use any of the Auto-graded item types and the student will just it wrong or right, but if it's worth zero points, it will not matter. For example, you could ask a true or false question on whether they found the class inspiring or something. Perhaps others will have ideas here or you could suggest this again. - Jen
I agree that this is a problem that needs to be resolved in new quizzes. I post practice quizzes worth zero points that include essay questions. Right now my students can't see the correct answers I've included or the essay questions unless I go into each practice quiz and grade the essay questions. I'd like the correct answers to be available to students after they take the zero point practice quiz, without having to grade the zero point essays. For me, this problem could be solved by adding the "practice quiz" option that classic quizzes had to the new quizzes.
