Migrate Item Bank

When I migrate a quiz to Quizzes.Next that is attached to an Item Bank, the item bank does not move with the quiz.  I have looked documentation and at the available selections and cannot determine how to migrate an item bank from Canvas to Quizzes.Next.  What is the process of migrating Item Banks to Quizzes.Next?

There isn't an easy way to do this, and the documentation is fuzzy.  You need to do the following.

  1. Create a quiz in Quizzes that contains all of the questions that you want to have.
  2. Export the quiz as a QTI document.
  3. Create a new Item Bank in  The name does not matter as it will be renamed in the next step.
  4. Follow the directions in How do I import questions from a QTI package into an item bank in Quizzes.Next?

Two things to realize about item banks in Quizzes.Next.

  1. They are owned and visible only to the instructor that creates them.  This is a huge problem for any faculty that share a master section or team teach courses.  See‌ and
  2. You can't select a subset of random questions as you can in the Quizzes tool.  See‌.

Hopefully you have worked through this already in the past year.

It seems to me if you have added audio files to your classic quiz, these will NOT be included in the QTI file I create by following the steps you describe. Or did I miss something here? Surely, there must be a way to maintain the audio files. I have quite a few question banks with a large number of audio questions, so adding the audio files one by one to each question would be a very tedious task. Any suggestions?

I am a bit out of my league with the transfer of attachments to questions, but I suspect you are correct.  Did you find a work around?

Hi Dan,

Not yet, I'm afraid. However, I've understood our e-learning department is working on a solution. It also seems we're not in quite as big a hurry switching from Old Quizzes as I initially thought, so I'll just wait and see what they'll come up with.
